Reading Kingdom at Gunn Ranch Academy

My six year old first grader tried this program out.  He started out working through the skills tests to see where he needed to be placed in the program.

He complained and complained about how boring it was every time I asked him to work with it. He finally just refused to continue. I was watching him do the very same thing over and over, so I jumped on the computer to try and figure out what the issue was. After about going mad from working the very same activity over and over I contacted customer support and turns out we had an old account I had created to check it out last year and there were updates to the newer version so they created us a new account.  They placed him at a higher reading level than just the starting point. With help from me sitting with him he was able to work through several of the activities, but still deemed it very boring and just couldn’t tolerate doing the same activities over and over again. I tried to sit with him and work through some to get him to some different activities but then it was too hard for him.  He was very frustrated with the whole program and since I’m having some issues motivating him, I chose not to continue making him use this program since it’s suppose to be for fun. I know many of my crewmates’ children are loving this program and I recommend you read more reviews. Our experience was probably just an unfortunate exception. Since we have quite a while left on our subscription I might see if he wants to give it another go once his reading skills are a bit more advanced so he can do some different acitvities. You never know!

On a positive note, the characters and animation is really cute, and the customer service is fabulous!
