Cover: iShine Bible NLT

For review from Tyndale Media Center Bloggers Program, we received an awesome little pink Bible just for tween girls, written in the New Living Translation, called the iShine Bible.  I hadn’t actually heard of the iShine tween brand before being introduced to this Bible.  From the Tyndale description of this Bible:

~{iShine is a tween brand that combines music (CD, and the iShine Live touring event), TV (iShine Connect Available on DVD through Provident/Sony), a web community (, and other media, including DVDs of the iShine Live concerts and “Sermonettes” by one of the hosts of the TV and concert tour, Paige Armstrong.}

 The first thing we noticed when we slipped the cardboard jacket off was how ultra soft the “Lip Sync Pink and Rockin’ Ruby” leatherlike cover is! The design on the front has indented stars with a pretty scrolly-like design and silver flecks in it. On the bottom third is an indented picture of three tween girls with joined hands. Very sweet and inviting little treasure!

 Upon opening the Bible and several places throughout, interspersed between the soft tissue paper pages of scripture, are brightly colored heavy laminated pages depicting one of the central themes of iShine: V.I.P. which stands for value, identity and purpose. These have flashy graphics with catchy tween phrases and contempory teen pictures to encourage the tween reader to press onward and depend on God through reading through the scriptures, devloping a close relationship with Him. There are also links to webpages for tweens. (And even QR codes to scan if you have an iPhone scanner!!)

  I loved opening the very first page and under the “This Bible belongs to” line, it reads:

Because I am, I shine.

As with most Bibles we found a table of contents in the beginning listing books of the Bible, but then the first 53 pages before Genesis include the sections:

*What is the Bible?

*Finding Your Identity in Jesus

*Growing in Faith

*The Bible Talks about (with A to Z word topics and typical questions a tween might be asking)

This little gem is 4 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches, small enough the throw in a backpack or purse. List price is $19.99.

My Tween Taylor’s thoughts:

She, like myself, was impressed by the ultrasoft, leatherlike, vividly colored cover, immediately running her fingers over the indented stars and feeling the soft texture. She loves the little size of it, and commented on the neat questions and answers in the front of the book. We have been talking quite a bit about translation, and I’ll be interested to see how she enjoys the difference from the Bible she currently has. She did comment on the page that talks about the NLT translation in the beginning of the book adding to the understanding of what we have currently been discussing. I think she will like this easy-to-understand translation.

I am thrilled to see her excited about her new little treasure, and feel she will really be able to get a lot out of her very own special Bible.

Five stars from us! *****

*We received this Bible free of charge from Tyndale Pubishers as part of their blogging program in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received and opinions expressed here are our own honest ones.
