***** Five stars!!!!!
“God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.”
Wow. Max Lucado has once again gone above and beyond inspiring us to be more than just average. Showing us that God does, indeed, use common folks just like us. Showing us that God used common folks just like us way back in the very beginning. From fishermen to tax collectors, to soccer coaches and blue collar workers- God changes the world with average folks that Max refers to, among other things, as “Mr. Pot Roast.”
In his comfortable, conversational style, Max encourages us page after page to press onward through cultural and personal strongholds- to come out of our self-purchased clamshell into a hurting and needy world. To open up our hearts and resources to share what Jesus would have shared – the work we have been given by our Heavenly Father.
He encourages us to receive the bread, then pass it on. He challenges us to team up. To be a part of a holy community-to worship, laugh and weep as a team. I was so touched and inspired by this chapter on teamwork as God has blessed me with such an amazing church family and Praise and Worship Team to share my journey with.
He encourages us to open our doors and hearts and be hospitable. He reminds us that Jesus hates hypocrisy, but loves a cheerful giver.
He mentions King Herod, Hitler, Peter, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But mostly, he is focused on you.
On challenging you to Outlive Your Life.
This book is beyond awesome. It will uplift you and encourage you to desire the very things Jesus desires for you. To come out of your clamshell and really live your life.
As with most of his books, there are discussion questions and ideas for action at the end of the book on each chapter. And as with all I’ve seen- these are as inspiring and thought provoking as the chapters themselves.
I particularly liked, as well, the prayer at the end of each chapter concerning the topic of the chapter. I found myself meditating on these prayers and thinking more deeply about the ideas being shared.
I was touched to learn that one hundred percent of the author’s royalties from Outlive Your Life products will benefit children and families through World Vision and other ministries of faith-based compassion. There are other products with the same message targeting teens, children, and group ministry. I will be reviewing the teen adaptation You Were Made to Make a Difference. Can’t wait to receive it and share it with my teen and tween!
