As we are just about to set sail on a new TOS review cruise, first up on my itinerary is a great little ebook available over at The Old Schoolhouse store for just $12.45.
Travel Kits- A Simple Way to Bless Others by Donna Rees is a wonderful resource packed full of ideas for anyone traveling near or far, by car, train or plane (or even cruise-boat ?) ;). It includes ideas for kits that can be put together for all ages to enjoy from babies to seniors- multiple ages, boys, girls, moms and dads, and even the family dog! It has ideas in all price ranges, and even mentions many different applications for travel kits other than the typical family vacation.
The thing I really liked about this book is that it took me beyond my own experiences of how stressful it can be to travel with my own family and friends into thinking about helping relieve that same burden and stress for others. I never expected to be blessed in this way from a book on making travel kits! It really stimulated some thinking much beyond just crafty ideas.
This little ebook is positively an endless resource of ideas, lists, how-to’s, what to get and where to get it, as well as an encouragement on being good stewards and blessing our friends, family, and neighbors. It includes many examples of travel kits the author has put together with lots of great photos that will truly inspire you to want to get started right away- not only making kits for your own family trip, but will have you thinking about everyone who has mentioned an upcoming trip!!
I really don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love to create that wonderful feeling of surprise and excitment that comes from opening a gift, or watch someone they love enjoying something they’ve been blessed with! This may be an understatement, however, in a situation where you’ve got a backseat full of anxious kids who are becoming bored and ready to reach their destination (which could be just five minutes after you’ve left the house on a three hour or even three day trip!)
As for my own travel kit ideas, I’ve had fun thinking of many different themes as well as friends I can bless with these. I’ve begun to collect several things to use as I see them, and it has been a lot of fun to explore the many different possibilities that have been inspired by this ebook. I will be using these ideas for years to come!
As always, you an read what my Crew Mates thought of Travel Kits over at the TOS Crew Blog.
Have fun blessing others!
